Goal: My goal is to prepare each student to learn as quickly and as musically as possible, given the amount of time each is practicing weekly. Students should be able to see and hear progress weekly, as each lesson is designed to provide insight and introduce new musical elements. Once the learning style of a student is understood, the pace of lessons is adjusted to insure that the student is not overwhelmed.
Technique: I use a version of Russian technique that supports good posture, relaxed body, and prevents injury to back, neck, shoulders, wrists, and fingers. The technique promotes beautiful tone, musicality, flexibility, and the ability to perform increasingly more challenging material.
Range of Teaching: I have worked with children as young as five, teens, adults, and seniors. The foundation is critical, so a lot of time is devoted to insuring that beginners are competent note readers, listeners, and musical performers. For students who come to the studio with years of study, coaching is provided as well as instruction.
Performance: All students are encouraged to play for others. Ensemble pairings, master classes, and recitals are optional for all age groups. I am happy to coach students who are performing in their schools or churches, as well as those who wish to compete.
